Re: Nikon 120-300MM F/2.8 Zoom Lens

The 500 PF is a nice addition to the 120-300 lens for a two camera/two lens solution.  When I can afford it, I'd like both.

I'm a little disappointed in the weight of the 120-300.  I find it very easy to handhold the 300 2.8, but to support the weight of the 120-300 AND zoom at the same time is harder.  I made the mistake of not taking my monopod out with me yesterday, just taking my groundpod, assuming I'd be shooting that style, but I found a tree base where I was getting nice pictures of my kittens running around the tree, and because I was shooting from downslope from the tree, the groundpod just was too painful to use - so I shot my 180-400 handheld for about 3,000 photos.  I CAN do it - but I sure PREFER the lens on a gimbal and tripod or monopod.

And the question I'm wondering is will I be happy replacing my 180-400 with the 120-300 combo and 500 pf (because my 180-400 is SO TERRIBLE when the TC is engaged) - or will I want to keep both - and if I get spoiled by the quality of the 120-300 and 500 pf combo, will I start lusting after getting a 400 2.8 E FL to fill the gap between those two lenses.
