Hi guys,
I want to get a relatively small, portable walk around camera. I want to use it mostly for family snapshots, traveling, etc. Most of the time, the photos will either be shared over the internet or relatively small prints will be made. However, I want to have the option of printing up to 16x20 on rare occasions.
The things that are important to me are the ergonomics and low light performance.
Given that I'm a Canon user, the logical thing for me to do would be to get the Canon M series cameras. However, their ergonomics just plain suck and very few models have an actual viewfinder, which to me is an absolute must.
So, I started looking at various other alternatives, and the Fuji X cameras look really attractive to me. I have been photographing since the early eighties, so the traditional controls have a great appeal to me. I like to be able to see the shutter speed at a glance on an analog dial and my hands automatically reach for the aperture ring on the lens. Those aspects are very desirable.
I have been considering the X-E2 because it has the traditional controls, it's compact, it doesn't look like a camera, which might make it easier to shoot candids and it's inexpensive on the used market.
There are two things that prevent me from pulling the trigger:
- I don't quite understand the purpose of the Xtrans sensor. What exactly are the benefits over the traditional Bayer sensor and what are the disadvantages? Is this something I should even worry about?
- How's the low light/high ISO performance? I've looked at the image comparison tool and I don't really see a big difference among most of the APS-C cameras even the current set.
If anyone can shed some light on this, or have some other recommendations, I would be happy to hear them.
Thanks.
