None of my camera gear improved my photography, it just made it easier to achieve certain images. My brain, on the other-hand, dramatically improved my photography.

What changed about your brain?

Did you take lessons? Did you just get out and shoot? Did you attend exhibits?

I did a all of those... but I think at it's most basic I spent time thinking about what I wanted to shoot and why I wanted to shoot it. I do way more pre-visualisation and seldom shoot random things (unless I am specifically going out to shoot random stuff as a creative exercise).

I should point of that my idea of better photography is not what others might think. I don't take pretty photos of things any more... but my work has a lot more meaning for me now.
