Did A Stills Test Today
1

When I read the OP post I was thinking this was referring to stills. So, since I was taking my NX100 + kit out for the next few days I thought I would take a shot in Auto for several scenes as i usually shoot in Program or Aperture Priority. I used JPGs in this test.

When I got home I was very surprised to see sometimes a big difference with Auto, and many are better than the other modes. Sometimes brighter but blowing highlights in some spots, a little richer color (like somewhere between Normal and Vivid Color) and WB rendering a little whiter white. I was using Auto WB because it was partly cloudy. Sometimes it was a slight difference in exposure combinations, sometimes for the better.

I think using Auto might be useful sometimes as long as there are no bright areas to get blown. I'm sure RAW in PASM would still be the best.

The 2nd shot of each set is Auto.
