Re: Raja Ampat, Part I: Island of Kri, Koranu Fyak Homestay

I have Lake Pleasant only 10-15 miles from my house, but it's a lake I would only dive in for training.   Murky at best, with a wicked thermocline at various depths (7 mil wet suit below it, even on a 115F Arizona day).   But the worst thing of all is the pervasive smell/taste of exhaust in the water from the boating traffic.

Honestly, if I never have a chance to dive in the ocean again, I still won't go in the lakes here for fun.  On my first PADI checkout dive I went into Saguaro Lake to a depth of 15 feet for skills testing.  I was warned to not let go of the weight belt when I took it off and put it on again because it would disappear into the mud forever.   My fins were buried several inches as it was.

From here most (warm) diving is in the Caribbean, with popular destinations of Cancun area (Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Cozumel), and any number of small islands on cruise ship stops.   I've been going to Roatan at least once a year for several years now, but I'm not sure the travel is even possible for now, and maybe for the next year.   Who's going to be left to visit then?
