At BrownieVet’s suggestion I just tried to mount my 35mm f2 Nikkor O lens (certainly pre-AI) set to f5.6 onto my D810 and it clearly interferes with the AI tab on the body. I did not force it beyond the initial contact with the aperture ring and the AI tab and it would not mount. If I had forced it, damage would have clearly resulted. There is no “safe” aperture to set the lens to to get it to work. Mackiesback is correct BrownieVet is wrong. In my EXPERIENCE, forcing the lens on IS LIKELY to cause damage. I can only imagine BrownieVet has been lucky.

funny, I never had problems mounting it on D800, D800e, D810, D850. I also had no problem mounting it on D80, D90, D100, D200and D300.
