Parallax correction or not?

Parallax correction or not?

My basic understanding of parallax is that, on a rangefinder, what you see through the OVF is different to what the sensor β€˜sees’. This is due to their respective positions.

However the camera gives you the option to ‘correct’ this. Why does it give you the option and not just correct it? What reasons would there be for not wanting to correct this?
