And here I thought extra batteries like Wasabi were cheap, easy to change, light, convenient and reliable. Now I discover how much I've been missing by avoiding a more complex, heavier, less reliable, more awkward solution! How much more fun shooting must be with a wire hanging out of the bottom of the camera, and how much more calories I can burn by carrying around a power brick. Heck, I might even up the calorie count by looking for a power source that uses lead acid cells!

lol

there are use cases for battery packs for cameras just as there is use cases for external battery packs for flashes.

however, I do tend to agree, if I'm out and about with a mirrorless camera, usually I travel light, which doesn't include a large battery pack. a few LP-E17's will fit in my front pocket. a battery pack may fit in my front pocket but then everyone will think i'm glad to see them

I certainly DO get that there are cases where having a larger capacity method of supplying power to a camera is needed. I've had that need for astrolandscapes, astrophotography, etc .. Even for winter photography it's handy.

All my cameras since the 20D have had the ability to use dc power sources. for about the last, oh I don't know.. 6-7 years? maybe more? I've relegated that to usb supplied power on any camera that I've owned - just easier.
