Its not about preference, it's about need. Many a times a battery dies on you while you are on the field or on a trip and you miss shots because you need to turn off the camera while its charging. And you may ask, why not get multiple batteries? depending on what you are doing multiple batteries are not enough (and are expensive) or the swapping process gets in the way.

having a built in USB-C port with on the fly charging at the same time as usage, is more convenient, but it's certainly been around for ages, the ability the run your cameras from external DC power sources. just about any camera can do that.

I dont think that's a solution for people out of the house, hehe.

Again look at my example, I don't want to have to swap batteries because it takes too much time,l and hassle, so changing the battery to a dummy batter doesn't solve that problem.

Its much, much simpler to simply plug a cable from the side of tu our backpack and plug it into your camera.

sure it would. for many use cases, ie: long exposure night photography, etc where you would need more than one battery AND switching battery would be very critical and very problematic, the solution has existed for decades.

Any solution where you are actually hand holding your camera and it's to hard for you to swap batteries, but it is not more of a pain in the ass to actually work around a USB cord, the camera tab, potential of ports exposed to dirt, moisture,etc. It also seems like a very narrow use case. I mean, swapping a lens would be as inconvenient.

like I said, built-in USB-C charging is more convenient, but to suggest it's the ONLY way of doing that implies that people must upgrade their cameras to get around this. But there is also risks with this too. batteries usually fail when they are charging. Charging one in a camera isn't always a good idea either.

I dont see how you would use a power plug outside of the house, but if you say there is a way I'll trust you.

Besides, do we really have to depend on DIY solutions? Powering something via USB is and should be standard for all electronics. Why are we even defending its omission?
