Always Add Insurance When Shipping Cameras - UPS Lost Mine
9

All,

Last week, I sent one of my Fujifilm cameras to LifePixel for an infrared conversion. LifePixel recommended using UPS and adding the appropriate amount of insurance, and I followed their guidance. I packed the camera, brought it to a UPS store, and made sure I included adequate insurance. I checked the status of the shipment a couple of days later, and it did not show that it had been scanned at any UPS facility.

I called the UPS store last Friday and a very helpful staff member initiated a trace on the package. She told me that if the package isn't located by the end of this week, I should expect a check for the insured amount. I am hoping the camera shows up at LifePixel in a day or so, but if it isn't found, at least I will get enough money to cover the value.

This was a good lesson for me. The extra insurance was only $5, and I will make sure to always add it for valuable equipment.
