It may take 1/1000 second to capture the image and a very long long time to post process. That's what makes it into an artwork.

Or choose the subject, the setting, the lighting, and otherwise prepare. After all, it only took da Vinci 1/10 s to apply the last brushstroke to the Gioconda, and he hardly post processed at all.
