Well, I have to admit that I don't remember well what I've payed for my A2 back in 2004. But it wasn't exactly inexpensive. And if I add inflation over 9 years from 2004 through 2013 when I got the RX10Mk1 I'm not sure if there remains that much of a difference.

In addition it's a bigger sensor, higher MP count and a lens with more coverage towards the wide end.

My A2 had to go finally because the noise levels at anything higher than ISO64/100 were just too high. No agency accepted the A2's files but all accepted RX100/RX10 files - and pixel count was not the relevant issue.

Now an interesting aspect about the life span since my RX10 is getting close to 7 years of usage - still one year less than I had the A2: from my POV the RX10 is by much less technically dated after these 7 years than the A2 was. Well, IIRC on could get the RX10 new in the stores at least by the end of last year.
