Are DNG and RAW the same?

Sorry in advance for such a dumb question...I'm really a film shooter, and although I have also had a digital SLR for almost 20 years, I'm definitely ignorant re most things digital.

When I have shot digital, I of course have only shot in RAW, and processed those in PhotoShop. I just bought my first decent cell phone, and picked the Samsung Galaxy in large part because it advertises that it can shoot RAW images.

Got the phone yesterday, made the correct changes in Settings [to save as RAW] and did a few sample shots. But the images are DNG, and not labeled as RAW. In the phone, there are settings to save an image as RAW, but no language about saving as DNG even as an option.

A quick Google led me to believe that RAW and DNG were 2 completely different (but related) things. But maybe not??? . . . maybe I'm wrong and the two are the same???

[cross-posted in Retouching forum--not sure where's the right place to put this question]
