Samsung using a different-shape USB-C?

Bought my first decent smartphone yesterday. Galaxy 10e. Before this purchase, I had of course noticed that all my other USB-C cords work interchangeably: Kindles, older Android phones, rechargeable flashlights, etc. . . just as expected.  But I was surprised to find out that all 12 of those older cords do NOT fit the Samsung phone. The USB cord that came with my camera works perfect...BUT, does Not fit any other USB-C device.

1. Have you Samsung users experienced this?

2. Why would Samsung do this?...one huge advantage for companies sticking with a universal standard is that it is, well, universal. It's so much more convenient being able to use my Kindle cord to also charge up my old phone, or to use the car charger to power up my phone or my flashlight or my bluetooth speakers.

This means I need to buy a bunch of extra Samsung cables, just for this Samsung phone. But I'm not seeing the business strategy in Samsung doing this.

grumble, grumble
