Ode to the EOS M100
14

I currently shoot with a Nikon Z7 with a Nikon 24-70 f2.8S lens. My street/travel camera is a Ricoh GR III. I’m serious about my hobby and I’m happy to purchase the equipment I need (or want) to help me enjoy and get the most out of it!

Until a few months ago, I used to carry the M100 with 15-45 kit lens for “fun stuff”. I think it cost me $300 (It was an impulse purchase) for a DSLR sensor in an almost point and shoot body, with a zoom lens. WOW! Beautiful snapshots, even in auto mode! Easy to carry as it weighs next to nothing. Battery good for an afternoon of shooting. I even got a decent copy of the 15-45 given the well known issues with that lens. Then my daughter took up photography and I gave it to her to use. Since then I have not been able to find a suitable replacement. I know the various options very well having researched them to death. They’re all excellent pieces of kit, it’s just that none seem to have the combination of features I am looking for, including the fun factor.

This weekend I spent time taking pictures with my daughter. I let her try the GR III and I took the M100. Boy was it fun. Just like old times. I may have “better” gear, but sometimes I just want to have fun taking snapshots. And for me, that’s what the M100 is all about!

Looks like an M200 may be in the plans...
