Reversing ring and apeture setting

I have a 55mm reversing ring which fits a number if my lenses across a couple of different cameras, so I have plenty to play with.  But all lenses have problems, and all have one problem in common.

The older 'non automatic' lenses have manual aperture control, but there is a lever that control if the aperture works.  One some it closes, on others it opens.  Unless that lever is held the aperture ring setting does nothing.

I suppose I could tape it back, but is there a more elegant solution?

The automatic lenses don't have a manual aperture setting ring.  Bummer!!  They still have the lever/pin but it means that the aperture is either fully open or fully controlled.  Taping it still doesn't give me control over the aperture setting.

I've tried using the lens in manual mode and setting an aperture before taking the lens off, but that setting doesn't 'stick', despite what some articles on the 'Net have to say.

The Camera is a Sony A-Mount.

The lenses are variously, Sony A-mount. Minolta RD mount, Cannon FD mount.

Any suggestions as to how to address these issues?
