This is all for learning purposes as well because an A7RIV is waaaaaaaay out of my league as well and if I get one it could be in three years maybe.

Again, the camera I am kind of interested in is the cheaper 24MP Panasonic S1, not the Sony.

So if you're interested in the Lumix, why even mention the Sony comparison?

I think he was saying X-H1 skin tones out of Lightroom are not to his liking? I was saying that A7Riv skin tones from ACR look bad to me. Regarding S1, too few lenses.

I just looked at all portraits in the A7Riv sample gallery. Even at low ISO the o-o-c JPEG skin tones are better, and at high ISO they are much better, mostly due to less noise.

Downloading one ARW (brunette in yellow dress) I was quickly able to exceed o-o-c JPEG quality using Darktable's filmic module and wavelet noise reduction. No sense posting results here, but it does prove the importance of noise reduction even with full-frame sensors. AFAIK they do not use ACR+NR in the sample galleries, and the practice of "raising shadows" just makes matters worse.

Maybe Lightroom is what has gone down the drain 😬

Lightroom has many options to improve X-H1 results, and alternate software is available.
