Problem using best shot selection using Sequator

Sequator (1.5.2) is a very powerful image registration (stacking) software. It has a "best shot" option, which does some kind of edited mean for each pixel. Sequator works well in "best shot" mode for a stack of 10 images and makes satellite and airplane tracks disappear like magic. On my computer (HP Elite Book 2016 vintage with 4 CPUs and 16GB of RAM and a fast 256 GB SSH) it works wonderful in the normal mode, 240 images with 24 Mpixel each in 6 minutes.

But in the best shot selection mode (default=2), it takes 30 minutes for 240 images, claims successful completion, a .TIF file is created, but Sequator is unable to read its own .TIF file. With 99 images it takes 15 minutes, sam problem. I suspect some king of memory overflow problem?

Has anybody else run into this problem and got around it?
