Replacing my X100's ND filter.

I'll start by saying I am an amateur and perhaps don't fully understand the inner workings of my X100T - however, I have been making use of the built in ND filter, by way of a programmed back button. For me, I use it when in really bright sun, but still wanting to shoot at F2, for example.

From what I have read, its effectively 3 stops worth, either on or off. My question really is, if I was to use a different camera (an X-H1 for example), which I believe doesn't have a built in ND filter(?), how would I replicate this? I don't mean physically, I know you can buy ND filters of varying thread size to suit the lens, but what ND number would I go for to replicate that of my X100? And do you think I would use/ need it in reality? Or do you guys tend to just sort it out in LR?

I'm probably taking for street stuff here, in summer - and most probably on an X-H1 with the 23mm F2.

Any advice?
