Re: Stereo slides

Hi - I too have over 7,000 Realist slides that my father shot from 1956 to 1996. Best visual record of family life and relatives that I have other than my own memory! My dad tended to whip out the camera weekly; he drove my mom crazy but I am so grateful he did that. About 20% of the slides are damaged due to light leaks which I understand this type of camera was prone to because of the long back opening. However, they have survived multiple moves, being stored in the garage cupboard with no air conditioning, and a bad house fire. I would like anyone's input on the best way to scan these for family genealogy, realizing that the stereo effect probably is impossible to preserve, I am assuming that I would have to scan just one side at high dpi. Has anyone tackled this with success? I have an HP 8600 Officejet Plus scanner and could try using that with manually previewing and then adjusting scan dimensions and dpi/color settings. What do you think of that? Thanks.
