The 75-300 is a good and fairly small lens. With care in holding steady you can get good results all the way to 300mm. For carrying it is a good choice.

You really need a focal length of 300mm minimum for birds, especially small ones. I did not find it that fast focusing, though. although, that was with the EM-1 I. I've not used it with the EM-1 II.
