KamLan 50 mm f/1.1 Mk II: My first impression (Third Party Lens talk)
2

Dear Fujifilm-X community

This is just to let you know that I just described my first experience with the KamLan 50 mm f/1.1 Mark II with sample images including a bit of a comparison with the Laowa 65 mm f/2.8 APO Ultra Macro lens. The forum automatically directed my review to the third party lens talk.

Context: I bought this lens (a used but almost new copy) according to my newly developed "2020 fast portrait lens strategy" . We all know that the Fujifilm-X community is happily expecting exciting times with all the announced fast portrait AF lenses (Viltrox, Tokina, Fujifilm). However, I'd prefer to wait for professional tests before making a decision; there is so much speculation, still! I am also curious whether the Tokina has other coating or something else than the Viltrox or if it'll be all the same.

Anyway, I needed to somehow manage my severe and increasing G.A.S. So I went for the KamLan budget lens and I can say: this was certainly no mistake!

I would like to thank Tom Schum for sharing his opinion on the KamLan Mk I and Mk II (see here and here).

My first impression review offers

  • Sample images with the KamLan Mk II from f/1.1 through f/4
  • A comparison of center sharpness between the KamLan 50 mm f/1.1 Mk II and the Laowa 65 mm f/2.8 APO Ultra Macro af f/5.6
  • A comparison of the maximum possible bokeh between the above mentioned two lenses

My subject is a clematis, no test chart images.

BR,

Martin
