Thx RLight, very impressive and really grateful for the effort put in this review. Adding comparisons to previously owned cameras is really key to your review and really appreciated.
Myself, looking for a dedicated compact camera, one that can 'mimic' my relatively 'old tech' but still good FF Reflex (Canon 6D Mk I) while surpassing my smartphone which is more or less best-in-class for photography (iPhone 11 Pro Max), I found that most compacts have whether the same unpractical buttons as a smartphone or do not elevate the image quality by a significant margin to justify having a dedicated compact camera vs a smartphone
Following your review, waiting for the G1X Mk IV .. if it can be a 'pocket 90 D', that would be terrific! Mid 2021?
Thx again RLight!!!!!
I think the Mark IV could be much sooner actually. The technology exists for the Mark IV, right now. I suspect Q1-Q2 next year to your point. They'll come out with an IBIS APS-C and probably will have a non-IS lens to go with it and instead rely on IBIS since IBIS does well for non-telephoto focals anyways. Allows them to squeeze a yet "faster" optic into the same body, but maintain IS-capability. That would be a sweet gig (32MP APS-C IBIS + 15-45mm f/1.8-3.5 lens). There was a patent not that long ago for Canon-IBIS in PowerShots, and I find it no coincidence the drawing they used was that of the PowerShot G1X Mark III.
Until the Mark IV comes out, I'll be enjoying my existing G5X Mark II.
I should've never sold the G1X Mark III btw in hindsight. The G5X Mark II fits my shooting style better, but I did enjoy the results of the G1X Mark III better and it was a more "fun" camera. These modern PowerShots are pretty good though (G1X III and G5X II), I can't complain about either truth told; they fill the important niche of having something on you at all times that isn't a smartphone, is more capable and engaging.
Here is the link for Canon's patent on IBIS.

I just put my order this morning for G1X iii.
Expected delivery May 12
Hopefully it will exceed in performance my G7X ii.
