Recently I was reminded again about how even our tiny sensor digicams are darn capable and even my lowly Canon G16 would have been a dream years ago.
I selected just a few of my photos taken with various tiny sensor digicams (non-ILC) and created a new, small album of photos:
http://www.bakubo.com/Galleries%202/Digicam%20Praise/index.html
The photos were taken with the following digicams and are in chronological order starting in 2000:
Olympus D-340R
Olympus D-510Z
Minolta D7i
Canon A70
Canon A540
Canon A590IS
Canon S95
Canon G15
Canon G16
All the photos have a caption that includes the year and the name of the camera.
Almost all the photos were taken with the Canon digicams. About 85% in this album were shot as jpegs and the rest were raw. Take a look if you are interested. I have a ton more, but this is a small album to give a flavor.
Very nice images. A small unobtrusive digicam is the perfect tool for the great people pictures you take in Japan and elsewhere.
Thank you. I miss wandering around for hours in Tokyo, riding trains, etc., but I hope in a few months to be able to do it again. For years I always have a camera with me. Sometimes it is a camera such as the G16 or S95, sometimes these days the Panasonic TX1 (ZS100) or Sony RX100, or one of my m4/3 cameras such as the Olympus PEN-F, E-M10II, Panasonic GX7II (GX85), etc. I used to often carry various DSLRs too, but I prefer lighter and smaller gear now that it has become so good.
I was there in January. I only had a day and a half by myself in Tokyo to do photo stuff but enjoyed it. I went by MAP Camera; they had a white Ricoh GRD IV, but I passed on it. I also got to play with the Leicas they have on display. The rest of the time we were in Kyoto, Hiroshima and we ended up near Mt. Fuji. I used my G16 in all those places with mixed results (I should have remembered the number one rule of travel photography: don't take a camera you are barely familiar with). I am looking forward to going back to Japan also, but I expect it will be 2021 at the earliest.
