Samsung NX1 + SEF-580A Wireless trigger
May 4, 2020
Hello, I've gone through multiple posts regarding the NX1's ability to trigger an off camera flash. Unfortunately, it is still bewildering, and the more I read about it, the more confused I get.
I'd greatly appreciate some comments (confirmation, clarification, or further guidance) from fellow members of this forum.
1. Any trigger can work with NX1, but only in the manual mode, without the ability to control flash power or HSS. However, it raises further questions such as: (1) should the pin be single pin only, or any pins by default will function as single pin, due to the lack of TTL support or incompatible camera? (2) The sef-580a supports M-HSS, why would any third-party trigger not support HSS over manual mode, when it can support a regular manual mode?
2. Are there any other combination of triggers and flashes, any company, that will support HSS? Instead of Samsung flash, if i buy Godox AD200 pro, would HSS work with their own triggers? Some models have built-in receiver too.
3. Similar to 2nd, are there any trigger systems that supports power configuration through controller or transceiver? Is the power control function part of TTL framework? Would any of the latest pocketwizard model work?
3. Are there any transceiver out in the market that works for nx1 beyond just working as a dumb trigger? If not, what is the cheapest trigger that you recommend. There are so many models like xt1, cactus, Flashpoint rs2, etc. Some are clearly described or identifiable as single pin, while others don't mention it at all.
4. I tried using the internal flash to trigger sef580a, but it didnt didn't work well for my purpose even after turning the flash level to -2. Further, this method is not great for clicking newborns. I want to keep the flash away from the subject, that's the whole reason I'm struggling to make this work.
I wish Samsung had released one model before shutting off their business (lol), so much pain to get this working.
I'm sorry for posting long list of questions, but I really want to settle down on this topic though your support and end my long research, which has been futile thus far.
Also, note that I'm very new to flash photography, so if I misinterpreted something or provided insufficient information, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
Best,
Krish
