Re: I may charge my G16 battery and take it out again

I have not been on this forum for a long time, but I still have my wonderful Canon G16 and S95. Both are in a drawer because I replaced them in the line-up with a Panasonic TX1 (ZS100/TZ100) and a late model Sony RX100mkI that has the version 2.0 firmware (not available for older RX100mkI models). Here is my Panasonic TX1 (ZS100/TZ100) review:

Just yesterday I was browsing through Lightroom and I saw all my G15 and G16 photos and I was thinking about how much I liked using them. I may charge up the G16 battery and take it out again this week. Thinking about that made me come back to this forum and I was surprised to see this thread resurrected near the top of the page. Strangely dpreview inMy threads does NOT show it. Weird.
The G16 is such a nice camera and it just has a nicer feel of quality compared to the TX1. The TX1 is very good, even in build quality, I think, but the G16 with it's magnesium body just feels better. I think I have convinced myself to take it out for a spin again. I think the last time was in 2017.

thanks Henry. Your experiences and fondness for the G16 have confirmed my hope to get one. The form factor of the camera and the positive comments for its performance and image quality (noting its a compact lens, its sensor size and its age) suggest it would be perfect as a easy to pack substitute for carrying a dSLR (which is what I do mostly, Nikon D7500 or D3300). I realise it won't rival the dSLR and I would use that for 'serious' photo excursions. The G16 is compact but with a suite of 'hard' controls. But not too compact by the look of it - tall enough for larger hands to grip comfortably.
