It's time to get a new camera. The repair cost will be a few hundred dollars.

One option is the T7i - the body costs about USD 700.

The other options are 80D (USD 900) and T8i (USD 750, released soon).

Unless urgent, I would recommend waiting a few weeks and getting the new T8i.

Not urgent. What’s the improvement?

Read the article at the link I included above: https://www.dpreview.com/news/5472961411/canon-announces-rebel-t8i-with-revamped-af-and-4k-video

what about full frame?

Not urgent. Budget is not a major concern. What about full frame?

The 5D Mark IV has come down in price. (It is quite good, but I never upgraded from my 5D Mark III, which is already better than I am. )

The 6D Mark II is very good and relatively light - I have been happily using one and would suggest that you ignore the random negatives on the web.

I would move one step farther: What about full-frame mirrorless?

I also use an EOS R and rate it roughly equal to the 6D Mark II. Highly recommended.

Keep in mind the extra money for new EF lenses (for 6D Mark II) or RF lenses (for R, although in this case you may adapt EF lenses via a Canon EF-RF mount adapter).

thanks - as always too much to consider

I should just repair the T4i!

Best no-headache option.

What about DR?

Don't know - never been a limiting factor in my 19 years of digital photography.

Do you need IBIS too?
