I may be a little late to this but if my searches are correct, is it true that the PC-controlled shooting options are not available on the consumer-grade M cameras? I have the camera connect app on my phone and it does the job well enough but sometimes I like to see the tether results on a big monitor instead of my much smaller phone.

Is there an alternative to allow PC-based control of the camera besides the EOS Utility? Both of my t models (t2i and t5i), using the EOS v 2 instead of EOS v3 still have the option but not the M5.

Is there any sense behind removing the function or forcing the app use? I'm not impressed with this difference though fortunately I don't have to do this that often. I HATE when companies remove useful features but I'll cut them some slack if it was limited for a good reason.

They say it's because of M series use Powershoot firmware (Except for the original M and some recent M series), that's why no support for EOS utility.

EOS M50 support EOS utility and support tethered shooting.
