Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, even though I have shot with the 50-230.

Only things I didn't like were lack of aperture ring and the wobbly barrel at the tele end bothered me when using filters.

These days though I am thinking that I will only use round filters on the X to keep overall compactness, so it wouldn't have to bear the weight of a square filter system (which I continue to use on GFX).

The 50-230 and the 16 f/2.8 (or 14mm, which shares the same filter size) would make a great light 'Galen Rowell' style landscape set.

I agree with you about the barrel wobble at the long end, though it doesn't seem to impact too much on IQ.

Galen Rowell used the Nikon Series E 75-150 and swore by it.

because he understood light, framing and content were more important than lens sharpness.

Today Fuji users have the 50-230, which is a better lens optically and offers AF with OIS. It costs less new in equivalent monetary terms than the Series E 75-150 did in its day. And if you look through e-Bay, a mint used one costs little more than a mint Series E 75-150 does today. The Fuji lens offers amazing value.

Cheers, Rod
