noted somewhat my experience of various things as well ...

Stabilisation is reported to be very poor in the RX100 early marks and presumably reasons existed to bring out 5 revised versions of the short zoom one. From what I have read many think the Mk III is the best one to start on. No menu touch screen either but good processing, sensor and optics though not reputed to be the friendliest machines to use by all accounts.

I recently ordered a Canon S120 for $100 as a compromise super-compact, I couldn't justify the price for the even discounted RX100 IV ...

Sad the 1/1.7" sensor was not developed or even the 2/3". Sony seem to have struggled with cost and reach with the 1". The Fuji X20 was always a camera I wish I had owned.

The Casios were the last of the 1/1.7" and I manged tpo get a ZR5100 new before they went also.

I think the original G5X is the last of the Powershots which has an old type Canon G feel to it and I like mine a lot. Not for fast RAW frames per second though but I use JPEG. Always reluctant to recommend a camera as what we like is very personal to us.

I hadn't paid much attention to this camera. But from your comment went and had a look at some reviews - it does look like a nice camera in a small but grip-able form factor with external controls. Seems the EVF actually works pretty well. Coming from a film SLR I have always felt the 'need' [muscle memory I suppose] for a viewfinder rather than framing on screen ... As a daylight, lightweight camera it might be a a very good option. I have certainly found framing on screen in Australian daylight to be very challenging.

I wonder if the G5X is one of those cameras which suddenly get liked after they have gone like the Olympus Stylus 1S. I was a bit like that with my G5X.

I find holding the info button in to instantly boost brightness or to toggle back is one of the handy features of Canons and it does help.
