Are 35 & 50 too close together?

That was on full frame though.
35/50 is also a very popular Leica combo with the goal usually for your portfolio to look the same. I’d imagine he wanted the White House historical photos to also have a similar “look.”

And yes a fast 35 is basically the de facto journalism lens, and switch to 50 for better people shots.
