Macos Catalina Support for H.265?

Trying to figure out why Macos HEVC support will let me play Samsung NX500 videos, but do not play any audio with the video. I tried 4096x2160, 3820x2160 and 19020x1080 (30fps). All of them play back in camera with audio. None of them play in quicktime or imovie or final cut pro with audio. In fact the Samsung movie converter says the first two don't have audio while the 1080 size has an aac audio track. Is this an Apple issue (not implementing h.265 correctly or fully) or a Samsung problem (deviating from the h.265 spec somehow)? So the only way I can get the out of camera video to include audio is shooting in 1080 and then convert it to h.264 to use in final video processing, which is a pretty painful workflow given how slow the Samsung converter is! Oh, and VLC doesn't like the 1080 OOC version at all!

Anyone else using the Samsung out of camera videos successfully in Mac Catalina? This is Catalina 10.15.3, if it makes any difference.

Oz C.
