This is... a fair point, actually. The reason I came to that option at all is because of the low cost (cheaper to get the M100) and because I'm looking for different small (compact) options on the market.

And a very good car comparison, haha.

One of the reasons is that, I'll be honest, I kinda baby my X-T20, and it's rather on the heavy side (pleasantly heavy! but still). I just don't walk out for a jog with it. The M100 would really be the "I'm gonna put this in my ski jacket pocket", bit of a rough and tumble option. Which kinda actually points me into the direction of something like a G7Xii, but again I'm just looking at the cheapest stuff available on the local market, and I find it very hard to resist deals...

The X-T20 with 27mm f/2.8 weighs 54 grams more than the M100 with 22mm f/2.0.  That is basically the same weight as one of your NP-W126 batteries.  I.e. not much difference.  If you don't own the 27mm, you can easily buy it used for under $180.

As you mentioned, something like the G7X II might actually be a better option for reduced size and weight.  It would also have a more useful zoom range for activities like skiing.  A fixed 35mm equivalent lens is a bit wide when skiing on a mountain.

Of course, if you really want to go smaller, the best option is a good smart phone.  Though this would not be the cheapest option.

Sometimes the best option isn't necessarily the cheapest option.
