Try more troubleshooting first? Such as check MS Services: Ctrl+Shft+Esc & cycle through the tabs & lists to see what is going on when it is a) stalled or b) working?

Still seems like a memory problem to me unless you can figure out otherwise & that maybe the BATCH scanning used up your system resources creating a bottleneck? However, a reboot should have cleared that?

If you can't figure anything else out, then uninstall/reinstall as per the suggestion & test single scans vs. batch scans if your HDD memory is more than adequate?

Hope you can tell us your solution to?
