... You can browse through the below threads to see pictures of the SX60 & SX70 cameras.

The FZ80 using the same lens as the FZ70, hence one could look at:
The "Best Superzoom 2014: Eight competitors, 2.5 clear winners" (HERE) includes the FZ70, SX60 HS, and SX50 HS in comparison shots.

Interesting that the older (at the time) SX50 HS overall IQ better than the SX60 HS and the FZ70.

It was going over to those stock Sony 1/2.3" high 16-18-20 megapixel sensors that put paid to compact resolution and performance across the board with a few exceptions. Crazy amounts to put in these small sensors. Interesting that Sony capped the 1" sensor at this level when going for quality for the enthusiast.

The main market goes for these high pixel counts and as the sensor supply dried up these mass consumption creatures are in the main all that is left.

For the more specialist FZ330 Panasonic probably specified their own sensor as does Olympus for the TG-6 which is probably a big seller.

You would think Canon could do better having no high quality super zoom apart from the ageing G3X but there is talk of them even abandoning EOS M so probably they are just cruising and milking the low end market while they can with the bare minimum input and no in house sensor development, just off the shelf in compacts.

I suppose in many ways the SX50 was the last real Canon super zoom and the original G5X the last real Powershot G series camera and the new stuff is the equivalent of some anodyne modern grey car churned out with no distinctive character probably all made from the same shared parts bin.

Below one of my SX50 HS and FZ80 215mm (1200mm EFL) comparison shots.

FZ80 even with the advantage of being release four years after the SX50 HS, and the FZ80 image downsampled to the 4000x3000 to match the SX50HS 12MP, SX50 HS image has less image noise and better resolution of small details.

However as noted in previous posts, the FZ80's ergonomics and overall operation speed is far better than the SX50 HS.

Hence, if anyone interested in the FZ80 I would 'highly recommend' to taking the time, reading, and viewing sample images at several of the full F80/ FZ82 Reviews to see if the FZ80's image quality 'good enough' for your intended use of images; e.g.:

Graham Houghton FZ82/ FZ80 (HERE); will need to scroll down to review.

Can do a Google search to find other FZ80/ FZ82 reviews.

Jon
