Thanks a lot for your advice. In that case it will save me USD 400 ! My son is using a D3400/AF-P DX 70-300 and it's results are very good for the price ! Even I have used this combo for my recent wildlife trips.

Although in my wildlife photography there is one difference. In poor/low light and at 300 mm I will get in more light in the FX ?

One final question ....if I buy the DX should I invest my savings in a D500 over a D7500 ? My main subjects are large wildlife viz. Deer, Elephants and big Cats and some bird photography. I get not more than 6-8 days in a year to go to national parks so at best I am a amateur !

If weight and/or price are the primary criteria, then the D7500 is probably the right choice. If you've not seen this comparison, it may be helpful in making a decision.

For me, I find that the D7500 with a DX 70-300mm telephoto (or even with my full frame Sigma 100-400mm) mounted is comfortably handheld and maneuverable for shooting birds in flight. For large animals that are unlikely to be moving quickly or erratically, I'd expect such a combo should be fine.

Thanks for your inputs. Here in India a few of my friends, who are primarily into birding, insist on Nikkor lenses for Nikon bodies. In this case they are using D500 plus the Nikkor 200-500 f5.6. They say focus issues do arise in Sigma/Tamron lenses and here in India we are not sure how fast they will be resolved or the Lens replaced. My dream lens in AF-P Nikkor series would have been a 150-400 mm Nikkor ! Why ? Because I use a D5200 with a Nikkor 18-140 alongside for Landscapes or where I need wide angle for Elephants in addition to my 70-300 so upto 150mm I am covered.
