Re: Issue with Fuji Zooms and Tripod // Contactless shutter release; ES; OIS

Thanks, I will try using my cable release. Haven't yet, as I would have thought a timer would introduce less possibility of shake.

If you want to be competely contactless, there is of course the Fujifilm remote app.

With this, you could remove any transmission of vibration through the cable of the remote cable release from the equation.

Regarding ES and OIS:

I recently did a handheld test with my XF 55-200 mm at fl = 200 mm. It was cold outside, my hands were a bit shaking. ss was 1/4000 s. I had OIS on for good or for bad or maybe it gets deactivated anyway at 1/4000 s. I wondered because I really noticed a little motion blur afterwards on the monitor. I haven't since followed up on this - could I have avoided blur w/o OIS, could I have avoided blur with MS.

So this remains a no-statement and actually rather a question: given the same ss, can ES lead to a worse result than MS w.r.t. motion blur? I know that dynamic range is reduced with ES. (Regarding MS, it was already mentioned in this thread that the inherent first-close-then-open movement before taking the image can lead to blur in a certain range of ss; if I remember correctly, it is from about 1/60 s to 1/250 s.)

The answer to the other question, whether one should leave OIS on or not or whether the camera switches it off automatically at short ss in relation to fl anyway can be probably found somewhere in this forum.

Best,

Martin
