I have recently bought into the Fuji ILC system. I have owned X100 series cameras, so know what to expect in terms of usability and image quality. Coming from Canon, I wanted a more lightweight set up for hiking and landscape photography. I also do a bit of portraiture, so ended up buying the leightweight zoom trinity for landscapes: 10-24mm, 18-55mm and 55-200mm; and the 35mm f/1.4 and 56mm f/1.2 for portraits. These are coupled with an XT3.

After a few weeks with them, I love the primes and the 10-24mm. But I have had issues with the other zooms. After a lot of testing, it has boiled down to very variable results when using them on a tripod. By and large, handheld and with OIS on, they both produce acceptable if not stellar images. However, for some reason I very often get images which (while not blurry) are just not as sharp as when they are shot with handheld.

Can anyone explain it? This happens even when I shoot, Electronic shutter, OIS off when on tripod and with the 10 second timer. Am I being too picky?

Some examples:

55-200 at 55mm on tripod focused on the plant pots by the hammock. f/8.

18-55 at 55mm as above

18-55 at 55mm handheld - OIS on. F/8.

And for comparison, the 56mm prime - tripod shot.

Hi Kirth,

You've probably checked this, but do the X-T3, the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm have the latest firmware installed?
