Thanks Jim,

The Release priority is on Focus Priority.  But I shoot manually on the tripod and use back button autofucus, so I can try to manually focus next trial, and see if there is a difference.  That being said the worst image is of the 18-55mm on the tripod (the third image), and that does not look like a focusing issue to me, it looks like some form of shake as nowhere is sharp.
