It seems Italy was hit hard because they have over 100,000 Chinese migrant workers involved in the Italian garment industry. Many of these workers went home for Chinese new years celebrations in January and brought an extra payload back to Italy. A big problem for our highly mobile world

That Spectator story blaming the Italian coronavirus problem on Chinese immigrant workers differs from all other accounts.

The article explains the migration of people back and forth to China, but it seems the Italian gov was just way to slow in responding and this article did not properly incorporate that information. International travel is a fact of life.

In the following months more info will come out about this. As migrant workers are they better paid than other countries? More disposable income for travel? Did more migrate workers in Italy return home for the holidays than other countries? Did more of them end up in Wuhan? etc Or is this mostly the gov's fault for slow response?

It seems now that other western nations are heading down the same road, they just started later.

The virus does not discriminate between races. The spread follows the model of human interactions with people being the conduit for the spread. The US reacted late much like Italy and Spain and the virus spread in the US is following the same pattern as Italy and Spain, only delayed by weeks.

Yes, I think we should follow the model of China with unregulated, filthy, disgusting bushmeat markets with the cages stacked on top of each other. When viruses break out, silence the masses! May the strong survive!

China reacted quickly and now has the virus under control. OTOH the US started out in denial calling it a hoax. Now the US is paying the price. Very sad.

China can't even prevent the origin of these animal viruses. Their population isn't educated enough.

They are smart enough to control it. And they have. The US is still struggling and flailing around trying to figure it out. How sad.

I only know of one fool that would be praising China for their 'smarts' in this mess, Mama.

What happened when the US offered to bring some (real) scientists in to investigate the problem?

It just so happens that REAL Chinese scientists were very quick to publish the genetic code of SARS-CoV-2 providing scientists worldwide the earliest possible opportunity to begin working on vaccines. You would not have seen any human trials for vaccines begin by now without that.
