I forgot about the magnetic strip. I would suppose that if you just shot from beginning to the end of the roll, that it would work like a traditional camera (just a supposition), but you would lose the ability to swap rolls in and out. I wonder how many people actually used that feature.

I never had any use for the Advanced Photo System myself. As a lab tech, I always groaned when a customer would bring in a roll. The cassettes were a pain; often the film wouldn't feed, and occasionally the little door would break—we kept a supply of empty replacement cassettes for that. That's how I got familiar with the tools I described.
