First Shots at the Indy 500

Below are my first ever motorsports photos. The shots are used in may sports photography classes as examples of how photos should be taken (ha, ha). The 1973 Indy 500!

The racing on this day lasted less than 1 lap. At the green flag, there was an 11 car pile-up involving Salt Walther. Before the race could be restarted, the rain came down and we drove back to Columbus, Ohio. After another day of rain, the race ran on Wednesday. During the race, Swede Savage was killed in one of the worst crashes in Indycar history.
