Thank you @jonby, I will continue searching around the models mentioned.

In the meantime, I think getting the lens further back by about an inch or two, and giving up on the 15-20% of the 30MP of my full frame camera, I am able to achieve very good to excellent sharpness through corner to corner with good detail. Of course, leveling continues to be a nuisance.

I compared the resulting images from this procedure (lets call it A) with (B) 1:1 magnification with the Oly tube we have been discussing, (C) 1:2 just bare lens mounted, and also (D) mounting the lens on a m4/3 (equivalent to 1:1 field of view). Procedure A won by a very good margin.
