Do any of the Panasonic FZ cameras take a polaroid filter?

I don't think so but my cousin's camera club tells her that her skies would benefit from a Polaroid filter.

You mean a polarizing filter. Yes, the FZ series of cameras take them and maybe others I'm not aware of.

What you are looking for is a Circular Polarized Filter. It is made by a plethora of manufacturers and comes in a variety of sizes. One of which should screw onto the threads of your camera lens.

Basically the Circular Polarized Filter, often referred as a C-P-L filter, reduces light that is reflected off a surface. You rotate the front part of the filter to minimize the reflected light. This is good to "see" below a water surface or to take the shine off leaves, etc.

It will also "darken" the sky slightly, depending in which direction you are pointing the camera with respect to which way the sun is shining.

It is a very good thing to have whenever you wish to reduce reflected light. They are not very expensive.

Yes all the FZ cameras have filter threads as do the LX100 & LX100 II

In addition to John McCormack's post, the backside of the original lens cap will have the lens thread filter size; e.g., FZ200/ FZ300 52mm.

Your cousin can do a Google search for "Polarizing filter" and find many articles on using polarizing filter; e.g., HERE.

Cheers,
Jon

Now that is a bonus bit of info. I am asking this question on behalf of a relative. I own a FZ80 but I don't have any filters for it. Right now she is considering the FZ300 and the FZ80. I have the FZ80 and the lens cap says 55mm. So, I will let her know so she keeps in mind that it is 52mm for one and 55mm for the other.

You might also want to consider macro lenses for flowers insects etc. Cheap sets of close up filters are available but most recommend Achromatic Lenses. Popular ones are the Canon 500D and more powerful 250D and the Raynox 150 and more powerful 250. Probably a good idea to start with the less powerful ones.

Linear Polarizing Filters work with the FZ as well. I find them easier to use but harder to find. And good filters aren't cheap.
