@SandyHill, @D Cox thank you on the bellows advice. I looked them up; unless I am mistaken, it looks like the net cost of the whole setup approaches some used modern day macros, if not a lot more. I will give them a hard look anyway. Thanks!

@jonby, thanks for your thoughts on the Sigma. Is this the current ~$400 "EX DG OS HSM Macro" that you are referring to? If you could point me to the appropriate version that would be great! Also, what did you think of the Vivitar's flat field-ness? If there is a flat budget alternative I would rather go that route for now especially given my principal use being film scanning.

I certainly share the same enthusiasm in getting the film held flat!
