Lens MTF measurement with different sensors

Hi,

as an engineer I strongly believe in measurements for objectively comparing products. I know that there are aspects that a difficult to measure without large effort and aspects that are subjective. I am now contemplating about buying a lens for my Fuji X-E2 and am looking at reviews comparing MTF charts for the Fuji 18-55, 16-55 and 16-80.

Lenstip, 18-55
Lenstip, 16-55
Lenstip, 16-80

These measuements were not done in exactly the same way.  The older 18-55 and 16-55 were measured using the 16MP sensort, the 16-80 using the 24MP sensor. How does a higher a higher resolution sensor influence the MTF measurement? Is something like a magic factor that can sensibly be used to normalize these measurements?

The measurements will also be influenced by the way the files have been processed. Which software, which settings, lens-correction on/off, ... Does anybody have an idea how much the MTF measurements will be influenced by these factors?

Why am I bothered about all of this? I am at the moment unhappy with my 18-55 and not sure if the lens has a defect that it initially did not have, or if it was always the way it is now or if the problems are down to user error. I will be performing tests of this lens in the next days. Nonetheless the 16-80 is appealing for it slightly larger focal length range, which makes me think that I might like to buy it as substitute for the 18-55. This brings me back to the measurements above, e.g. MTF:)

Steve.
