But a fisheye for wide and distant view, cropped to panorama, hmm. Too bad in pic the lamp post is a problem which did not look as intrusive in-person.

Why not just take along a normal 18mm and shoot a few frames and stitch. This would have been useful in your first shot as well, and would have eliminated most of the distortion if not all of it. Then you would have a real panorama. Since you didn't, you could manipulate the pic and remove the pole and benches. Good software really helps with this. I used Adobe CS6

there is also considerable halos due to over sharpening, so I worked on those and blurred the foreground and other land features.
