Re: Want to go back to a Canon Powershot, which one?

KEH has an A720IS in EX condition for $46.23.  I have dealt with them for decades, and they stand behind what they sell.  A G11 in EX condition is a little over $100, and a G12 in EX is $139.

Many years ago, before I bought my first digital camera, I had a negative and slide scanner and could adjust the resolution.  I found that 8 MP was enough for prints to a borderless 8.5" x 11" size with some cropping, and so I waited for the Canon 20D with it's 8 MP sensor.  Later, I compared prints from the 20D and 30D to models with many more pixels and found the S30 was just as good.   Unless you do a lot of cropping, an 8 or 10 MP sensor is enough.  This also is true for on-screen viewing.

There are several good websites that discuss pixel count in terms of how much the eye can resolve.  That's around 300 DPI for the 5% most sensitive people, and 225 for 95% of us.
