Lichen Worlds

The macro (Canon 100mm) has revealed a scale of complexity in these slow-growing  ancient life forms that I find astonishing.  It draws you in and continues to amaze.  Focus stacking is ideally suited to these shots. The lichen are very slow to move.

Crustose lichen over-covering rock with broom moss

Spore laden lichen displaying fruiting bodies

Cladonia species

British soldier lichen amidst moss

Cladonia powderhorn species

Dog tooth lichen
