Having owned a Canon DSLR some time ago, I've been keeping an eye on the Canon M line. I checked out the M5, I was surprised to see that the EVF magnification was just 0.62, which was much lower than the 0.75 (approx) that I had been hoping for.

The current M6 II has been highly rated by DPReview, and I see from the forum that many are happy with the add-on EVF. How does that EVF compare with the one on the M5? Is the magnification higher? How's the refresh rate?

Thanks!

I had an original add-on EVF (the V1) for my M3 before I got the M5. I found the add-on EVF a bit painful in the sense that it created a somewhat odd shaped camera as it very much sat on top of the body, rather than being part of the body.

Overall the M5 seemed smaller and much neater to store or carry than the M3 + EVF. For somewhat occasional use the add-on would be fine for me, but I much prefer an OVF/EVF than the LCD because I require glasses for reading / detail, but not for general walking around, so I can use the VF without glasses.

I cannot comment on magnification etc - I am sure the specs are easily found. I suspect that they would be similar or identical - I think that to date it is only the R that is significantly different. Be aware that the EVF on the M5 has a reputation for being overly saturated in colour.
